08 Mar Find Your Purpose – Unleash Your Potential
“There is no greater gift you can give or receive than to honor your calling. It’s why you were born. And how you become most truly alive.” ~Oprah Winfrey
I believe that we are all born with a purpose, a unique gift or special talent that is innate to us, and us alone. Together, our gifts are different, working in harmony to create new ideas, inventions, changes, and peace in the world. Unfortunately, many of us are ripped from our life purpose, placed in 9 to 5 jobs and in situations that are not ingrained or passionate to us and we end up spending our lives in a state of dissatisfaction, just surviving and making a living.
But once we become aware of this, step outside and unlock our life purpose, we are finally able to understand our true potential, leading us on a path to success, health, happiness and abundance.
Before I became a yoga teacher, I was a human resources manager. I studied Business Administration, then did my Masters in Human Resources, because the human part of the business was my interest. But after working many years in the corporate world I realized I wasn’t happy and started to feel burned out. I knew I wasn’t here to do this work until I retire, but I didn’t know where to start.
After I walked away from the corporate world, I did some translation work, translating books from English to Turkish and taught English to Turkish people and Turkish to expats living in Turkey, my home country. Even if I enjoyed working from home, having flexible working hours and being my own boss, I knew this was also not my life purpose.
It was only after I started to teach yoga, dance, movement and deepened my practices into healing arts that I realized my purpose in life. And this brought me fulfilment and greater happiness.
This is why I believe we all should make time to know our life purpose:
It Provides You with Clarity:
Do you ever feel lost, apathetic, and wholly detached from your life? As if you have no idea what you are doing or what you should be doing? When you make time to know your life purpose, you can find clarity into why you were put here on this earth. With this clear vision in place, you can develop confidence. And believe me: you are capable of so much more than you ever realized.
It Provides You with Goals:
We all need goals towards something to motivate us and push us further. Otherwise, we end up in a monotonous routine that can create depression. When you know your life purpose, you can create mini-goals that help you pursue that purpose.
It Provides You with Success:
We all strive to achieve success in everything we do. However, it can escape us and feel impossible to secure at times. Through knowing your life purpose and understanding your true potential, you can pursue success and abundance that is integral and unique to yourself.
It Provides You with Happiness:
Do you live with integrity? Do you wish you were happier on a daily basis? When you know what your true purpose is you can familiarize yourself with that calling and develop a new attitude that is full of appreciation, gratitude, and happiness. What could be better?
It Provides You with Health and Wellness:
Do you wish you spent more time investing in your health? Do you feel like your well-being and mental health are lacking as a result of the life you are living? When you get in the groove with your life purpose, everything comes easier, which means you will have more energy and time to work out, do yoga, stretch, eat right, spend quality time with loved ones and much more.
If you are wondering how to go about identifying your life purpose, here are some questions I recommend pondering deeply:
- What are you most passionate about?
- What comes easily to you with little to no effort?
- What brings you the greatest joy and happiness in life?
- What makes you feel good about yourself?
- What do people typically ask you for help with?
- If you had to teach something, what would it be?
I also recommend you to take out a few sheets of paper and a pen. Find a quiet place where you will not be interrupted. Turn off your cell phone. Meditate a few minutes, then write down the answers to each question, writing the first thing that pops into your head. Then create a life purpose statement.
